Are you a Creative?

Are you interested in having your creative work showcased in Whimsy, on a commission basis? Looking for upcyclers, woodworkers, ceramicists, glass blowers etc. Please call in with a sample of your work. I'm after craft that fits in with the values and aesthete of the shop.

Kaori Jackson

Otago based NZ wildlife artist Kaori Jackson. In last over 10 years, I have been living in a nature reserve in Otago. My artwork is predominantly NZ native birds and flora hugely influenced by my surroundings. Apart from wildlife oil paintings, I work on 3D hand-painted stone creatures. Kaori has a selection of prints and stones in the shop as well as a great range of greeting cards.

Kat Konijn

Kat is just new to the world of wool felting but she is a natural.  Utilising my dyed wool and preloved frames Kat has designed unique stylish shades. Kat's latest endeavour, whilst raising 2 preschool girls, is creating bespoke fabric lampshades for standard floor lamps. Using pre-loved frames these one-off shades are immaculate. We are lucky to have a local Dunedin shade maker of this calibre.

Angelfish by Alice Carpenter

Alice has both a passion for jewellery and recycling so one of her favorite things is to make earrings out of old china. It is a special treat when she gets to give new life to a piece fondly remembered from someone's childhood.  Alice's  earrings, made here in Dunedin, are a popular staple in the shop and come with a free handmade pillowbox.

Flatwater Ali Ceramics

Ali Howlett has been a potter for nearly 10 years, and went back to Otago Polytechnic ,after raising 4 children, to complete bachelor of visual arts.  Her love of clay has never waned, and now that the family is older Ali is pursuing her craft as her main income. It is a pleasure to showcase this Deborah Bay artist's work with a range of planters, bowls and cups.  Her craftmanship is always commented on by other potters that visit the shop.
